Asia Pacific accounts for more than 60% of the worldwide gastric cancer cases (GLOBOCAN 2012 data), where most gastric surgeries are performed using the open surgical approach. However, for surgeons in early stages of the learning journey, limited experiential/evidence based training and reference materials exist to learn the oncologic principles for enhancing surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes.
In this context, Johnson & Johnson Institute (JJI) requested Tata Memorial Hospital for conducting D2 Radical Gastrectomy Masterclass. Tata Memorial hospital in-line with its overall mission of service, research and education agreed to facilitate the program.
On November 8, 2019, Professor Shailesh Shrikhande, Dr Manish Bhandare and Dr Vikram Chaudhari demonstrated:
- Cases of Total and Subtotal Radical D2 Gastrectomy
- Discussed the approach and potential complication management
- Elaborated role of technology for Radical D2 Gastrectomy For ease viewing JJI beamed this D2-Gastric cancer Masterclass in a webinar format across Asia Pacific countries
Impact: The Webinar generated tremendous interest among young surgeons across Asia Pacific and the viewership numbers are a testimony of the impact.
